  • Biography
  • Research interest

Mark is researching the public understanding of law. His PhD thesis uses the tools of public opinion research to develop a better understanding of public attitudes about interception warrants used in national security law. His thesis is supervised by Prof Ian McAllister, with Prof Zoe Robinson and Dr Dominique Dalla-Pozza. This research will help inform approaches to law reform in complex areas of law, and will facilitate an evidence-based approach to improving public engagement with legal policy debates.

Mark's undergraduate degree was in classics and philosophy before studying a juris doctor at the ANU, followed by a Graduate Diploma in Communications Law at the University of Melbourne. He is also an alumni of the International School on Research Impact Assessment. He was previously a public servant and policy adviser with experience across immigration, health, and counterterrorism policy. He has provided commentary in The Guardian and SBS, and has been a part of panel discussions on ABC Radio National and on the BBC.
